Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits the club would be ‘crazy’ not to retain an interest in signing Fulham‘s Fabio Carvalho.

A last-minute move for the 19-year-old on deadline day fell through as the two parties ran out of time to conclude the transfer.

Carvalho is out of contract in the summer and it is understood the club remain hopeful of pushing through a signing then.

‘We are still interested, it would be crazy if not. But at the moment it’s not in our own hands,’ said Klopp.

‘It was late before the window closed. It didn’t work out but we will see what happens.’

Klopp has virtually a fully-fit squad to choose from for Sunday’s FA Cup visit of Cardiff, with youngster Harvey Elliott, who has been out since September with a serious ankle injury, in contention after returning to full training.

Midfielder Thiago Alcantara is expected to be back after six weeks out with a hip problem, although he has been struggling with a chest infection, while Divock Origi is training again after two months sidelined by a knee problem.

Klopp also expects to have his two Africa Cup of Nations finalists – Sadio Mane of Senegal and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah – back in contention for next week’s Premier League visit of Leicester.

‘I think they will be available for Thursday. Whichever one wins will probably fly back to their home country (for a parade). Whoever wins will be back here Tuesday or Wednesday,’ he added.

The Liverpool boss was also full of praise on Friday for the club’s £50million January signing Luis Diaz ahead of his arrival, branding him ‘exceptional’ and adding that he couldn’t wait to meet him for the first time.
