Former NBA player and ESPN analyst Jalen Rose once called Scottie Pippen the most disrespected player in the history of sports. Moreover, he also proceeded to say that Michael Jordan wouldn’t have any NBA championship if he didn’t have Scottie Pippen on the Bulls roster. Rose’s bold claim came in the wake of Scottie Pippen opening up about his thoughts on the portrayal of Michael Jordan and the 90s Bulls in the 2020 Netflix documentary The Last Dance.
In fact, Scottie Pippen revealed his disapproval of The Last Dance last year before the release of his book. The 6’8″ forward criticized the popular docuseries for describing Michael Jordan as the lone savior of the Bulls. In other words, Pippen thought that the series downplayed the contributions of the Bulls roster to dramatize Jordan’s achievements.
Jalen Rose calls Scottie Pippen underrated
Scottie Pippen’s scathing remarks against Michael Jordan last year surprised the NBA community. However, a large section of the media tried to undermine the whole thing as a publicity stunt for Pippen’s new book.
Meanwhile, Jalen Rose had a very different opinion. In fact, the 2000 NBA Most Improved Player agreed with Pippen for the most part. In fact, he went on to say, “He [Pippen] is the most disrespected all time great player in any sport that any game has seen“.
“Michael Jordan wouldn’t have any championships without Scottie Pippen,” he added.
Incidentally, Rose has publicly acknowledged calling Michael Jordan overrated in the past. However, Rose clarified that his intentions were not to dilute Jordan’s accomplishments. But he simply feels that Pippen’s contributions have been swept under the rug to glorify Jordan.

Jalen Rose pointed out that the media and the fans always tend to glorify the best player in the championship team. As a result, the roles of other players are generally pushed to the sidelines. “We always wanna give the best player all of the credit,” highlighted Rose.
In other words, this often creates a false narrative different from what actually happened. Pippen’s statement underscores exactly that. Furthermore, Rose also pointed out Phil Jackson’s role in the Bulls‘ championship wins. In fact, Jackson bagged another three-peat with the Lakers after leaving Jordan and the Bulls.
