Coronation Street’s Amanda Barrie kisses rarely-seen wife on Loose Women
Coronation Street star Amanda Barrie kissed her rarely-seen wife Hilary Bonner live on Loose Women on Wednesday morning.
The actress celebrated being able to speak about her marriage freely after insisting she would have been fired from the soap for coming out.
Amanda, 86, who played Alma Sedgewick in the ITV drama for 20 years, planted a loving kiss on wife Hilary, 73, on the daytime TV show.
The star leant in for a smooch, as Hilary placed a loving arm on her wife’s shoulder as they discussed their fears about coming out in the 1980s.
The couple, who both had their locks styled neatly and wore a black and white colour palette, opened up to the Loose Women panel.
“There was no camp of any kind at that time,” Amanda said of how she hid her sexuality in the early days of her career.
“There were various people in charge of the show so, they called the tune. Do we call it homophobic? Call it what you like…
“What people did was they sold you to the press who thought ‘there’s a story there’.
“The press came and the very same people who would’ve done that would then say, ‘I’m not going to work with someone who’s gay.'”
