Coronation Street will not be airing in its Friday slot and fans aren’t happy

One griped: “Why is Corrie always the programme to be cancelled? Sport always seems to come before drama. So annoyed.”

Another wrote: “Omg! How many times has Corrie been shuffled about?”

However, to make up for it there will be an extra-long episode on Tuesday night, leaving some happy enough.

One wrote: “I guess that makes up for it. I love an hour-long episode.”

Coronation Street bosses have teased major twists and plots for the weeks to come.

Usually aired at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the long-time running show will make room for the football.

The match will kick off at 7.30pm on ITV and end at 10.20pm, meaning that viewers will have to do without their fix until Monday.

The cancellation does not include Emmerdale or EastEnders (which airs on BBC One) as both shows will be broadcasted at their usual times.

Coronation Street was also kicked out of its usual slots on Wednesday, December 29.

Making up for the schedule change, ITV aired an hour-long special of Corrie (and Emmerdale) on New Year’s Eve.

No episodes of the TV staple were aired on New Year’s Day, another change which had an impact on Emmerdale and EastEnders.

Fans’ patience has already been put to the test in recent weeks as Coronation Street had also been cancelled in December for Walk The Line.

The Euros, in June last year, also caused chaos for soap schedules.

ITV, once again, made up for the cancellations with an hour-long episode on Friday, July 9.

The long-running drama will be back on schedule for a double bill on January 10, 2022.

The early synopsis for Monday’s episodes reads: “Zeedan and Ryan find a use for Hashim’s dirty cash. A miserable Joseph pleads poverty to Hope. Aggie forces Tim to face up to his illness.”

“Yasmeen is incensed by Alya and Zeedan’s confession. Chesney and Gemma learn that Joseph is being bullied. Tim summons the courage to inform Sally of his upcoming operation.”

Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon will lead commentary on this Friday’s third round action from the FA Cup.

Manchester City players are headed off to Swindon without their manager Pep Guardiola, missing out on the action due to a recent Covid exposure.
