A SOLDIER in charge of making sure troops did not get drunk at an Army Oktoberfest has been demoted — after he ended up in a drunken stupor.

The 40-year-old served in Iraq, Northern Ireland and the Balkans and was described in court as the epitome of what a commander should be.

But guests at the event last October were horrified by the “smell and sight” of RSM Ransley at the Infantry Battle School party in Brecon, Wales.

The dad of three was found passed out with “a strong smell of vomit” in a “spectacular fall from grace”.

The Battle School’s alcohol policy adviser admitted disorderly behaviour and was demoted from Warrant Officer Class 1 to Warrant Officer Class 2.

He tried to overturn the demotion at Bulford Military Court, Wilts, but a judge dismissed his appeal.
