Wantaway Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski has hit out at the club once again declaring that something has ‘died’ inside him at the German giants and by keeping him there against his wishes will only damage their reputation moving forward.

Lewandowski has been publicly vocal about his desires to quit Bayern this summer, to the ire of their board, with Barcelona his preferred destination.

Last month the 33-year-old submitted a transfer request and when providing an update on his future recently the Barcelona target didn’t hold back – accusing his current side of a lack of ‘loyalty and respect’ after eight trophy-laden years of service.

‘I just want to leave Bayern. Loyalty and respect are more important than the work. The best thing to do is find a solution together,’ he told Sport Onet.

‘They didn’t want to listen to me until the end. Something died inside me – and it’s impossible to get over that. Even if you want to be professional, you can’t make up for it. No other offers were even considered by me other than that of Barcelona. I want to leave Bayern, that’s clear.

‘During so many years at the club I was always ready, available, despite injuries and the pain, I gave my best. I think the best thing to do is to find a good solution for both sides. And not to look for a one-sided decision.

‘I’m not looking for a unilateral solution, that makes no sense, not after so much time, after such a successful era and with my will and support.’

Lewandowski’s frustrations continued as he warned Bayern that no potential stars will want to join the club in future if they don’t allow him to end his eight-year stay at the Allianz Stadium.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been heavily linked as his potential replacement this summer.

‘What kind of player will want to go to Bayern knowing that something like this could happen to them? Where are the loyalty and respect then?

‘I was always been ready, I spent eight nice years here, I met wonderful people and I would like it to stay that way in my mind.’

Lewandowski’s contract with Bayern runs until 2023, but he has made it clear that he has no plans to pen an extension and wants to walk away.

He has enjoyed a sensational eight-year stint in Bavaria, having scored 344 goals in 375 appearances. This season, he 50 goals in 46 matches.

Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, Bayern’s No 9 has won 14 major honours at the club – including eight Bundesliga titles and the 2019-20 Champions League.
